These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of StoryTap, including the StoryTap mobile application, website, backend services, page analysis services, subscriptions, scan credits, and related features (together, the “Service”).

StoryTap is a mobile app that lets parents or guardians scan physical children’s book pages and create private interactive page packages that can be used offline by children under parent or guardian supervision.

Please read these Terms carefully. By downloading, accessing, or using StoryTap, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Important: These Terms are a practical commercial draft and should be reviewed by qualified counsel before public launch, especially for app store submission, children’s privacy, consumer law, copyright, and international distribution.

1. Who may use StoryTap

StoryTap is intended for use by adults, especially parents, guardians, grandparents, teachers, and other caregivers.

You must be at least 18 years old, or the age of legal majority in your country, to create an account, make purchases, manage settings, or accept these Terms.

Children may use the child-facing parts of StoryTap only with the permission and supervision of a parent, guardian, teacher, or other responsible adult.

You are responsible for:

  • deciding which books and pages are scanned;
  • supervising children’s use of the app;
  • managing purchases, settings, privacy choices, and deletion;
  • ensuring that your use of scanned books is lawful and appropriate.

2. What StoryTap does

StoryTap allows a parent or other adult user to:

  • scan a physical children’s book page or double-page spread;
  • upload the scan for one-time analysis;
  • generate an interactive page package containing detected text, objects, labels, bounding boxes, tap responses, and simple games;
  • store the scanned image and interactive package locally on the device;
  • let a child tap objects, hear labels, listen to read-aloud text, and play simple offline games;
  • create offline book packs for travel or home use;
  • buy subscriptions or scan credit packs.

StoryTap’s core operating principle is: scan once, play offline. After an interactive page package is generated and saved locally, normal child interactions such as tapping, reading, and playing games should happen locally on the device without a backend call.

3. Accounts

Some features may be available without an account, such as a limited demo or local-only first scan.

An account may be required for:

  • paid subscriptions;
  • scan credit packs;
  • restoring purchases;
  • syncing entitlements across devices;
  • optional cloud backup if introduced;
  • customer support;
  • account-level data deletion.

You must provide accurate information when creating or managing an account. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for all activity under your account.

4. Parent gate and child access

StoryTap may use parent gates before allowing access to purchases, account settings, privacy settings, external links, deletion flows, or other adult-controlled areas.

You agree not to bypass, disable, or intentionally weaken parent gates, age gates, purchase protections, or security controls.

Parent gates are a protective feature but are not a substitute for adult supervision.

5. Scanned content, book rights, and permitted use

5.1 Your responsibility for scanned content

You are responsible for the content you scan or upload into StoryTap.

You should only scan books, pages, images, or other materials where you have the legal right to do so, or where your use is permitted by applicable law.

StoryTap is designed for private family or classroom-style use, not for public distribution of books.

5.2 No public book library

You may not use StoryTap to:

  • create a public database of scanned books;
  • share full scanned books publicly;
  • distribute copyrighted books to others;
  • resell interactive copies of third-party books;
  • remove copyright notices;
  • use StoryTap as a piracy tool or public digital book marketplace.

5.3 License you grant to StoryTap

When you upload a scan for analysis, you grant TEKBIZ OÜ a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide license to process that scan and related content only for the purpose of providing the Service, including analysis, safety checks, troubleshooting, and generating the interactive page package.

This license does not transfer ownership of your books, scans, or content to TEKBIZ OÜ.

5.4 Local storage

StoryTap stores scanned pages and generated packages locally on your device by default. If you delete the app, reset your device, or delete local files, local book packs may be lost unless backup or sync is enabled.

6. AI-generated output

StoryTap uses automated analysis and AI-assisted processing to identify text, objects, colors, categories, bounding boxes, read-aloud segments, and game prompts.

AI-generated output may be incomplete, inaccurate, inappropriate, mistranslated, or unsuitable for a particular child. For example, StoryTap may mislabel an animal, misread text, miss an object, or create an imperfect game prompt.

You are responsible for reviewing generated content before allowing a child to use it, especially where a page contains sensitive, scary, unsafe, violent, medical, religious, political, or mature content.

StoryTap is not a substitute for adult judgment, teaching, reading, childcare, education, or safety supervision.

7. Safety and appropriate use

You agree not to upload, scan, generate, or use StoryTap with content that is:

  • illegal;
  • sexually explicit or exploitative;
  • abusive, harassing, hateful, or discriminatory;
  • violent, graphic, or unsuitable for children;
  • designed to manipulate, deceive, or harm children;
  • infringing or unlawfully copied;
  • malware, spam, or security-abusive content;
  • content that violates another person’s privacy or rights.

We may block, reject, or fail to process content that appears unsafe, unsupported, technically invalid, or contrary to these Terms.

8. Subscriptions, scan credits, and paid features

8.1 Scan credits

StoryTap monetizes the creation of interactive page packages. A “scan credit” is consumed only when StoryTap successfully creates a valid interactive page package, unless a different rule is clearly shown before purchase.

Unless stated otherwise:

  • failed analysis does not consume a credit;
  • network failure does not consume a credit;
  • cancelled scan does not consume a credit;
  • replaying saved pages does not consume credits;
  • tapping objects does not consume credits;
  • read-aloud does not consume credits;
  • offline games do not consume credits;
  • creating a new analyzed page requires internet access and available credits.

StoryTap may define a single-page scan and a double-page spread differently for credit purposes. The applicable credit cost should be shown in the app before processing.

8.2 Free plan

The free plan may include a limited number of lifetime demo scan credits, unlimited offline replay of successfully generated pages, device text-to-speech, local book packs, and no advertising.

Free credits are promotional and may be limited to prevent abuse.

8.3 Paid plans and packs

StoryTap may offer subscriptions and one-time scan packs, including plans such as Family Lite, Family, Family Plus, scan packs, or founding-family offers.

Exact pricing, credit amounts, renewal period, available products, and store-specific conditions will be displayed in the app or app store purchase screen before purchase.

8.4 Subscriptions

Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled according to the rules of the app store, payment provider, or subscription platform through which you purchased.

You can manage or cancel mobile subscriptions through your Apple App Store or Google Play account settings, or through another payment provider if StoryTap later supports web purchases.

Deleting the app does not automatically cancel a subscription.

8.5 Refunds

Refunds for purchases made through Apple App Store or Google Play are handled by the relevant app store under its refund policies.

For purchases made directly from TEKBIZ OÜ, refund rights will be handled according to applicable consumer law and the purchase terms shown at checkout.

Nothing in these Terms limits mandatory consumer rights that cannot legally be waived.

8.6 Taxes and currency

Prices may include or exclude taxes depending on the store, platform, and country. App stores or payment providers may determine the final price, tax treatment, and currency conversion.

9. App stores and third-party terms

If you download StoryTap through Apple App Store, Google Play, or another app store, your use may also be subject to that store’s terms, rules, and policies.

The app store provider is not responsible for StoryTap’s content, support, data processing, or legal compliance except as required by that provider’s own terms.

StoryTap may use third-party service providers for hosting, authentication, payment entitlement management, AI analysis, diagnostics, crash reporting, support, and other operational services.

10. Offline functionality

StoryTap is designed so saved interactive page packages can work offline after generation.

However, internet access may be required for:

  • creating new interactive page packages;
  • account login;
  • checking entitlements;
  • purchases and restoring purchases;
  • optional sync or backup;
  • premium cloud voice features if introduced;
  • support and diagnostics.

We do not guarantee that every offline feature will work on every device, operating system version, language, or text-to-speech voice configuration.

11. Data deletion

StoryTap should allow parents to delete local books, pages, packages, and cached data from the app.

If you have an account, you may request deletion of server-side account data by using the app’s deletion feature or contacting us.

Some data may be retained where necessary for legal, billing, tax, fraud prevention, security, dispute resolution, or accounting purposes.

12. Updates and changes to the Service

We may modify, suspend, remove, or add features at any time, including AI providers, credit pricing, package formats, supported languages, subscriptions, or platform support.

We may update the app to improve security, compatibility, quality, privacy, or compliance.

Some updates may be required for continued use.

13. Beta, prototype, and experimental features

StoryTap may offer beta, preview, prototype, or experimental features. These may be unstable, inaccurate, incomplete, discontinued, or changed without notice.

Beta features are provided “as is” and should not be relied on for critical needs.

14. Acceptable technical use

You must not:

  • reverse engineer the Service except where permitted by law;
  • interfere with the app, backend, APIs, billing, security, or credit ledger;
  • scrape, abuse, overload, or attack the Service;
  • use automated systems to create fake accounts or consume free credits fraudulently;
  • bypass payment, entitlement, rate-limit, parent-gate, or safety systems;
  • attempt to access another user’s data;
  • use StoryTap to build a competing dataset of copyrighted books.

15. Intellectual property

StoryTap, including its app design, software, code, branding, product experience, generated package format, backend systems, documentation, and trademarks, is owned by TEKBIZ OÜ or its licensors.

You receive a limited, revocable, non-transferable, non-exclusive license to use StoryTap for personal, family, or permitted educational use in accordance with these Terms.

No rights are granted except those expressly stated in these Terms.

16. Feedback

If you send feedback, ideas, bug reports, suggestions, ratings, or feature requests, you grant TEKBIZ OÜ the right to use them without restriction or compensation, provided we do not use your personal data except as described in the Privacy Policy.

Do not send confidential information in feedback unless we have agreed otherwise.

17. Disclaimers

StoryTap is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, TEKBIZ OÜ does not guarantee that:

  • the Service will always be available;
  • scans will always succeed;
  • OCR or object labels will be accurate;
  • AI output will always be appropriate;
  • every book, page, language, device, or voice will be supported;
  • offline functionality will never fail;
  • the Service will meet your specific educational, travel, childcare, or accessibility needs.

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded.

18. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, TEKBIZ OÜ will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, loss of profits, loss of data, loss of goodwill, or business interruption arising from or related to StoryTap.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, TEKBIZ OÜ’s total liability for claims related to the Service will be limited to the greater of:

  • the amount you paid to StoryTap during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim; or
  • EUR 50.

This limitation does not apply where prohibited by law, including liability for intentional misconduct, gross negligence, personal injury caused by negligence, or mandatory consumer rights.

19. Indemnity

Where legally permitted, you agree to indemnify and hold TEKBIZ OÜ harmless from claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses arising from:

  • your misuse of StoryTap;
  • your unlawful scanned content;
  • your infringement of third-party rights;
  • your breach of these Terms;
  • your bypassing of security, parent-gate, payment, or entitlement systems.

This does not limit mandatory consumer protections.

20. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or terminate access to the Service if we reasonably believe that you:

  • violated these Terms;
  • abused credits, billing, security, or free trials;
  • uploaded illegal or unsafe content;
  • created risk for children, other users, third parties, or the Service.

You may stop using StoryTap at any time. You may delete local data in the app and request account deletion where applicable.

Termination does not automatically cancel subscriptions purchased through app stores. You must cancel those through the relevant store account settings.

21. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Estonia, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.

If you are a consumer living in the European Union, European Economic Area, United Kingdom, Switzerland, or another jurisdiction with mandatory consumer protection laws, you retain any mandatory rights and protections available under the laws of your country of residence.

Before starting a formal dispute, please contact us at help@storytap.app so we can try to resolve the issue informally.

22. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If changes are material, we will provide reasonable notice in the app, by email, or by another appropriate method.

The updated Terms will apply from the effective date shown. If you continue using StoryTap after the updated Terms take effect, you accept the updated Terms.
